Community Shield Betting Tips: Arsenal v Man City, Sunday 16 August 2026

Both squads are patched up, so the result market is a coin flip the book has already read correctly. The only place value survives is promotional pricing, where the margin is handed back deliberately. That is the whole card this week.

Community Shield, Arsenal v Manchester City: three promotional prices and their quoted odds

Two disrupted teams, one honest edge.

Arsenal are without Saliba (back) and Timber (groin). Rice, Saka and Zubimendi have not played a minute of pre-season and are described only as ready for "some involvement". Arteta's side arrive on a three-game winless run, with defeats to Real Betis and Borussia Dortmund and a defence that has looked nothing like last season's. Kepa is expected in goal, Mosquera alongside Gabriel.

City are no more settled. Maresca takes competitive charge for the first time, Rodri is unavailable, Haaland is carrying a heel niggle and several players returned from their post-World Cup break two days ago.

That combination kills the result market. It does not kill the game state.

Where the value actually is

bet365's main markets on this fixture run at 4% to 8% margin and are internally consistent. Devig them and there is nothing worth taking: over and under 2.5 are both 1.90, corners are priced to the point, and the full-time result is a genuine coin flip that the book has read correctly.

The exception is promotional pricing, where the book hands margin back deliberately. That is the whole tip sheet this week.

Both teams to score and both teams to receive a card

Price it off bet365's own components. BTTS Yes is 1.70 and Both Teams Carded Yes is 1.36, which multiply to 2.31. Strip the margin from each leg (54.7% and 68.8% true) and fair sits around 2.66.

My own inputs land at 2.55 to 2.65: patched-up back lines at both ends, and a competitive final carrying silverware and a brand new rivalry.

At 3.25 that is roughly 20% of value. Even on deliberately pessimistic inputs it does not go negative.

Note the boost is capped at a £10 maximum stake, so treat it as a fixed-size play rather than something to scale up.

Same thesis, cleaner legs. My fair for the joint outcome is 2.23 to 2.39.

The builder engine reprices correlated selections, so it may well quote you 2.10 to 2.20. If it does, walk away. A builder priced below your own fair number is your opinion sold back to you at a discount.

If it comes up short, put the stake on the Super Boost instead.

Tip 03 · Community Shield · Bet Boost

Gabriel Magalhães to score a header

With Saliba out, Gabriel is the senior centre-half and the main aerial threat in the league's best set-piece routine.

His headed-goal rate works out at roughly 8% to 10% per appearance, so the unboosted 11.00 was about fair and 12.00 is marginally the right side of it.

Smallest play on the card, and skip it outright if the team sheet leaves him out.

Passing on

  1. Full-time result. Both XIs are compromised and the market has priced it properly.
  2. Over/under 2.5 at 1.90 each way. A 5% margin and no opinion strong enough to pay it.
  3. To lift the trophy. The last three Community Shields went to penalties. That is variance, not a market.
  4. Player props before 14:00. Everything settles on a "sub on, play on" basis but is priced for near-full minutes, and this fixture rotates hard. Haaland score or assist at 1.80 is fine over 90 minutes and poor over 65.

The risk note

Flat stakes, singles only. No accumulators: they compound exactly the margin we have just worked to avoid. And judge this card on whether the prices shorten before kick-off, not on the scoreline.
